ABOUT LAPTOP BATTLE
Laptop Battles have been bubbling for the last few years in cities such as Seattle, Portland, Austin, Dallas, Chicago, Philadelphia and Vancouver BC. They’ve received editorial coverage in places as diverse as LA Weekly and XLR8R to NPR’s morning addition. On Saturday, September 30th, FreeNYC.net will bring the most exciting Laptop Battle yet to Galapagos Art Space in inconic Williamsburg Brooklyn. This dynamic experience attracts electronic music fans, gear-heads, and trensetters alike as 16 laptop producers, 3 live performances and a host of DJs come together for an evening that is as much a competition as it is an all out party. Visit the national Laptop Battle site for more info, video, and sound clips.

THE BATTLE
Sixteen laptop musicians/producers are pitted in head-to-head, single elimination matches and given three minutes a piece to wow the audience and panel of three judges with their laptop skills, each winner advancing and “battling” until one winner remains to be crowned champion. Competitors are encouraged to use anything in their “arsenal” to set themselves apart. Costumes and theatrics are commonly a part of laptop battles. Judges for the event include Leslie Hermelin (Mute Records), Stephen Christian (Warp Records), and Lady Base. Live visuals provided by C-TRL Labs.

THE PARTY
In addition to the competition, Laptop Battle will feature three distinct live performances between rounds from prominent acts that use laptops as viable elements of their setup. DJs hold down the party vibe all night in the back room.
