Dessert Walking Tour

This may take the cake for NYC walking tours. This is the 12th consecutive monthly tour of the city's neighborhood sweet spots. This walk explores the Upper East Side’s best dessert shops. "Our first stop offers a freshly made black & white cookie, followed by a editor’s pick apple pie, next up is heavenly Hamantaschen, a triangle shaped cookie with fruit in the center, and our last course is an award winning New York cheesecake." Tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours and the walking distance is about 1 1/4 miles. The desserts are free to drool over and affordably priced for consumption. Greenpoint Oktoberfest

In the tradition of taking what you love and transforming it into something new and special, MeanRed, FreeNYC and the L Magazine get together to bring you an Oktoberfest celebration Greenpoint this afternoon. The day is littered with music, food, crafts, spectacle and, of course, beer, on the Brooklyn waterfront. Featuring music by Michna, Cowboy Mark and DJ Synapse... food from Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream, Hallo Berlin and Robicelli's Cupcakes... and even root "bier" floats, pumpkin decorating and face painting for the kiddies. On the brew front (to get to the important things), there will be seasonal and Oktoberfest offerings from Long Island's Blue Point Brewery, Brooklyn's Sixpoint and Brooklyn Breweries, and upstate's Ithica Beer Company. It's rain or shine and free entry all day. All Ages!

Halloween Freakfest

Halloween Freakfest is part of a series of shows that celebrate the vitality of the counter cultural scene that has survived on the Lower East Side, despite the rampant gentrification, soaring rents and lost venues that have contributed to the cultural genocide sweeping New York City." He usually has gigs at Gotham Comedy Club and the Cellar where you have to pay big bucks to see him but tonight it's free! Plus the usual free buns and Jello shots!
