The world’s greatest eaters will compete at the historic Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island today. Japanese eating phenom Takeru Kobayashi will attempt to regain his title against two time reigning champ, America's Joey Chestnut. At 10am the pre-game kicks of with performances, 11am is the introduction of eaters and then at 12pm the contest begins.

Super Festive 4th of July Gowanus Scavenger Hunt and BBQ

The Monster Project Monsterbash

"In a collaborative effort with New York City public school children, Kylin O'Brien is painting giant monsters around the city. This summer, in conjunction with a solo show at the Open Source Gallery (reception: July 4th) and thanks to a Regrant from the Brooklyn Arts Council in association with the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, more monsters will crawl out from under the beds of city kids and onto the streets of Brooklyn." July 4th Fireworks

It's long standing FreeNYC tradition to spend July 4th surrounded in beer cans and BBQ down at the Jersey shore. This year however we're keeping the boozing local in order to get a glimpse of the infamous Macy's Independence Day fireworks.
