Light Magic

Tonight kicks off Light Magic, a retrospective exhibition of Rudie Berkhout's holograms and laser works to celebrate his life in art. Rudy Berkhout (1946 – 2008), born in Amsterdam, started working in holography in New York in 1975. He was a pioneer of intricate new imaging techniques that capture the magic and mystery of light. Berkhout exhibited “New Directions in Holography” at the Whitney Museum of American Art (1991). His work has been shown at numerous locations around the world including the Walker Art Museum (Minneapolis), the Anchorage Museum of History and Art (Alaska), the Fukuoka Art Museum (Fukuoka, Japan), and the Palazzo Fortuny (Venice, Italy).

Inspiration and Interpretation

An exhibition featuring eleven artists from the New York City area will open at Clay Space 1205 Gallery tonight and will run May 8th. "Entitled ‘Inspiration and Interpretation’, the exhibition will feature each artist’s inspiration as well as the interpretation. The main focus of the show is the inspiration executed in clay using a variety of methods. Inspirations range from photographs to drawings to architecture. Works range from ceramic paintings, slip cast work and pieces thrown on the wheel."
