Oliver Mtukudzi at the African Festival

Date: Sunday, August 3rd
Time: 2:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: Prospect Park Bandshell (9th St & Prospect Park West, Park Slope)
Cost: Free
So here it is, MY favorite free outdoor show of the summer. Forget all they summer's hyped artists and and reunion shows, give me Zimbabwean guitarist Oliver Mtukudzi any day. "Tuku" is another one of those random artists handed to me years ago, on a blank CD, that has since become an inspiration to me in life and work. If I can recommend one free, outdoor show this summer - especially for fan's of guitar music, global music, or simply the power of music - it's this one. Tuku is joined by "heirs to the Malian music throne Habib Koité & Bamada and Daby Touré, Yossi Fine’s funk-infused pan African approach and Extra Golden, who combine traditional Kenyan Benga with indie rock" at this, the most eclectic African festival ever. Schedule Below. All Ages.
2:30pm Extra Golden
3:30pm Yossi Fine & Afrikan Bass
4:40pm Daby Touré
6:00pm Habib Koité & Bamada
7:30pm Oliver Mtukudzi & Black Spirits
