Love Punch

The Stanton Chapter closes the summer out with a weeklong series of DJs, live performances, and assorted other goodness. "Students, artists, musicians, professionals and local residents to come and enjoy Love Punch, the last indie music festival of the summer. In loving memory of block parties, storefront band spaces, 2nd floor window conversations and parked car speaker contests that were the emblems of summertime in the Lower East Side whiles before." Each day they will serve punch (hmm) to passersby on the street while while "on-lookers will be able to hear the newest sounds from performers like Aeon Crunc, Team Facelift, Holy Ghost!, No Surrender, Todosantos, Ninja Sonic and many others while enjoying a cold beverage inside the air-conditioned gallery." Harlem Hop

Tools of War is at it again, bringing True School hip hop back to the uptown masses. Harlem Hop is their only "traveling" park jam of the summer, hitting up a new Harlem spot each week. This afternoon's final hop welcomes DJ Mean Gene, DJ Kidragon, Grandmaster Caz, and PopMaster Fabel to the after-work fun. All Ages

Rushmore Screening

The Summerscreen series closes out with Wes Anderson's 1998 classic Rushmore. The unrequited love triangle of eccentric teenager Max Fischer (Jason Schwartzman), rich industrialist Herman Blume (Bill Murray), and their mutual love for elementary school teacher Rosemary Cross (Olivia Williams), Rushmore put both Anderson and Schwartzean on the map for a lot of viewers and is a true modern classic. The movie will screen for free as part of McCarren Park Pool's summer film series. Trailer Below.

2nd Annual NYC Celtic Gathering

The Second Annual NYC Celtic Gathering "opens up with the NY Scottish Pipes and Drums, followed by the Combined Pipes, Drums and Brass of the Mag 7 Pipe Band and the Palisades Park Fire Dept. Band, a brief intermission will include the NYC Piper with Irish and Highland Dancers followed by a final set from the Mag 7 Pipe and Brass Band." Kilts encouraged, all ages.

Shakespeare in the Park: Hair

For the second half of their summer run Shakespeare in the Park forgo their traditional fair and present that great American, tribal love musical, Hair. Based on an acclaimed concert production seen in summer 2007 as part of the Joe's Pub in the Park series, the current incarnation of hair is a fully-staged version complete with strobes, smoke machines, and assorted bells and whistles. This is a classic part of Summer in NYC so get ready to wait in line and make sure you catch the performance. All Ages. Ticket info below.
