Monica Bill Barnes: Game Face

FreeNYC Event Flyer

Date: August 11th – 14th
Time: 12:00pm & 1:00pm
Location: Robert Wagner Jr. Park (Battery Places bet. West St & 1st Place) - directions
Cost: Free

"Monica Bill Barnes’ Game Face compares the show business motto of 'the show must go on with the current day’s view of high-finance business as an all-consuming self-sacrificing endeavor. Exploring a performer’s endurance and “do or die” attitude as an illustration of Wall Street’s reputation for tireless work, this new work is bizarre, exhausting and boldly funny. A cast of eight dancers is decked out in costumes inspired by Broadway musicals and larger-than-life Vegas shows. The audience will witness the effort and fatigue that result from 'performing' as the dancers fight against the odds with hilarious and heartbreaking results." All Ages.

The MLK Jr. Concert Series continues bringing live music to the BK masses tonight with special guest Jill Scott. Scott, a Philly native, is an artist with "an abiding, deep commitment to lyrical honesty and musical integrity. Simply put, if Jill feels it, she writes and sings it. While vivid imagery, metaphor analogy are her stock in trade, there's no pretense, no hiding. She's upfront, in-your-face always real, using her own distinctive poetry to breathe life into words, digging inside to bring forth the accompanying emotion." While it doesn't say it on the site, I heard a rumor that Estelle may be joining her on stage today. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Peter Boyle co-stars as the campaign manager intent on making the candidate more electable. Political satire at its finest."
