One of the really satisfying things over here at FreeNYC is watching the bands that we love grow from playing small venues to monster sized ones. Take this afternoons McCarren Pool show with the Felice Brothers for example. They first showed up on our radar back in 2006 with a couple intimate, and amazing, shows to about 50 friends at Pete's Candy Store. Now, they bring their Upstate fueled Americana to the thousands. They've been compared to some of the great American songwriters such as Bob Dylan and Woodie Guthrie but their sound is as applicable to our time as it was there's. The Brothers are joined this afternoon by Eli "Paperboy" Reed, Langhorne Slim, & Deertick. All Ages.

Just Listen DJ Battle

A very unique invite only DJ battle series is going down in NYC this afternoon as part of the Brooklyn Soul Summit Music Festival. The Behringer Just Listen DJ Battle features 30 minute DJ performances from an assortment of vinyl junkies. Competitors will showcase turntablist style and in some creative way but must also incorporate House music into their routines. This afternoon is the finals and it is hosted by DJ Tony Touch. All Ages.
