Tonight's kid flick is the Iron Giant. Besides getting to watch movies outside on beautiful summer nights on the Hudson River, the other thing I like about River Flicks is that the popcorn is always free. Seating is first come, first served, so you and your little ones may want to show up early.

So here it is, MY favorite free outdoor show of the summer. Forget all they summer's hyped artists and and reunion shows, give me Zimbabwean guitarist Oliver Mtukudzi any day. "Tuku" is another one of those random artists handed to me years ago, on a blank CD, that has since become an inspiration to me in life and work. If I can recommend one free, outdoor show this summer - especially for fan's of guitar music, global music, or simply the power of music - it's this one. Tuku is joined by "heirs to the Malian music throne Habib Koité & Bamada and Daby Touré, Yossi Fine’s funk-infused pan African approach and Extra Golden, who combine traditional Kenyan Benga with indie rock" at this, the most eclectic African festival ever. Schedule Below. All Ages.
