If your walk home from work (or lack of money for Air Conditioning) somehow lands you in Central Park today, stop by the Namburg Bandshell (that smaller one by the Summerstage one) and catch The New York Grand Opera & Vincent La Selva's presentation Giuseppe Verdi's opera, La Traviata. Set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, La Traviata "takes as its basis the novel La dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas, fils, published in 1848. It was first performed at the Teatro la Fenice in Venice, on March 6, 1853. The title "La traviata" means literally The Woman Who Strayed, or perhaps more figuratively, The Fallen One." (thanks Wikipedia for schooling my opera-dumb a$$). All Ages.
