2008 Coney Island Mermaid Parade and Ball

FreeNYC Event Flyer

Date: Saturday, June 21st
Time: 2:00pm
Location: Starts at West 10th and Broadway, Coney Island
Cost: Free

There are two great reasons to head out to Coney Island in the summer time and one of them is the Mermaid Parade. Its kind of like the entire East Village went on vacation together (via subway), met a bunch of circus freaks, and decided to have a party. "The Mermaid Parade pays homage to Coney Island's forgotten Mardi Gras which lasted from 1903 to 1954, and draws from a host of other sources resulting in a wonderful and wacky event that is unique to Coney Island. The Parade is characterized by participants dressed in hand-made costumes as Mermaids, Neptunes, various sea creatures, the occasional wandering lighthouse, Coney Island post card or amusement ride, as well as antique cars, marching bands, drill teams, and the odd yacht pulled on flatbed." More info here. All Ages.
