23rd Annual April Fools' Day Parade

FreeNYC Event Flyer

Date: Tuesday, April 1st
Time: 12:00pm
Location: 5th Ave & 59th St to Union Square
Cost: Free

The New York April Fools' Day Parade was created in 1986 to remedy a glaring omission in the long list of New York's annual ethnic and holiday parades. These events fail to recognize the importance of April 1st, the day designated to commemorate the perennial folly of mankind. In an attempt to bridge that gap and bring people back in touch with their inherent foolishness, the parade annually crowns a King of Fools from parading look-alikes. The parade will be led by President George Bush and his entire cabinet. They will be given a 60-second lead and then pursued by an outraged lynch mob. This will be followed by a Macy's Day Parade-size helium balloon of a B52 Bomber Equipped with Nuclear Missiles flying overhead as the April Fools' Day Parade Marching Band plays Woody Guthrie's "So Long, It's Been Good to Know You." The Parade's Grand Marshall will be Ralph Nader, appropriately dressed as The Jester." More below.

Investigating urban centers where store windows and monumental advertising images are a worldwide phenomenon and a part of modern mythology, Kitze reveals how the numerical representation of imagery makes it possible for everything and anyone to be everywhere. With the four-by-five-foot backlit images that will be featured in each window of The powerHouse boilerRoom, Kitze’s work illustrates the transformation and globalization of culture by digital technology." Disco Down

FreeNYC Event Flyer

Date: Tuesdays
Time:10:00pm
Location: Happy Ending (302 Broom St)
Cost: Free
Open Bar: Well Vodka, 11:30-12

Happy Ending is always good for a little late night booze-fest and tonight is no exception. Dirty Disco mixes all the sounds the kids are diggin' these days... or in 1987... disco (duh), brit pop, indie, and new wave. While this will never replace the insanely debaucherous Sh!t Hammered weekly where I once saw 4 Hassids shoot tequila while 2 lesbians made out on a bed in the middle of the dance floor - it should still prove to be a good time. 21+
