Living in Brooklyn, one the things I definitely do not take advantage of enough is BAM Café. Sure I go there for the occasional movie and a play or two, but every Friday and Saturday night, BAM Café showcases renowned and emerging artists, featuring jazz, R&B, world beat, pop, and experimental music from Brooklyn and beyond. Tonight, the Brooklyn-based quartet Soul Cycle takes to the stage with their blend of soul, jazz, hip-hop, and funk. "Influenced by the early 1970s sound of Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Miles Davis, and James Brown, the group plays with a focus on rhythmic energy and a free-wheeling incorporation of a plethora of musical styles and moods, often within the same composition."
