Burrow through the black-lit spiral staircase into an evening of immersive audio-visual synergy, light-pulsating latex, rabbits and holes, madness and hatters. Somewhere between the bar and the dancefloor, stumble upon other members of the gin induced tea-party and abandon all reticence for a seat, a quick sip and a spin into the story. Mixing interactive theatre with the haphazard dynamic of an immersive visual party we are conducting an experiment in connecting the two genres. Join us in this experiment. Performances by DJs and VJs of Glass Bead Collective and Special Guests"

"There are more than 300 Chinatowns around the world today. Many others have disappeared, and new ones are being born each year. Storefront for Art and Architecture, in association with Chinatown Film Festival New York, takes you on a global tour of the Chinatowns around the world. Despite the clichés associated with Chinatowns, they are defined by their differences as much as their similarities. Some are rundown ghettos; others are modern sites of recent development. From large and well-known neighborhoods in San Francisco and London, to obscure or recently-formed communities in cities like Dubai and Glasgow, Chinatowns is an accumulative photographic portrait of an urban phenomenon spanning across more than 100 cities and four continents. Starting in New York City and moving east around the planet, Chinatowns is a compendium of over 1000 images taken by almost as many photographers. It is a visual tribute to the diversities and idiosyncrasies, as much as the similarities, that unite these urban communities scattered all over the world."

What you need to know is that we'll be dancing our a$$es off tonight at BLVD as DJ Scruff drops funky disco soul all night while wee get washed out on a 2hr open bar. But what you also need to know is that if someone could give me a specific set time, I'd be hopping a taxi up to cielo JUST to see Ben Westbeech perform. Straight and direct from Bristol, Westbeech is like one part house head, one part soul crooner and one part old raver gone array. The result is a very promising marriage of electronic music and performance. From house to (yikes) drum and bass (the smooth, soft kind) this boy croons to it all. Tonight is his US debut appearance and its well worth the trip. Dennis Ferrer headlines as DJ along with Kevin Hedge, J-Justice of the SunTzu Sound and Yasmeen on the decks. If you prefer house styles to funky disco then this is your spot tonight.

Biomorphic and Geomorphic Imaginings: Paintings by Ten

FreeNYC Event Flyer

Date: Thursday, December 20th
Time: 6:30pm
Location: Lolita (266 Broom St. @ Allen)
Cost: Free

For this one I am going to rely on the description I was sent of the work rather than try to explain for myself. "Ten (Who's Who in American Art, Best American Erotic Artists) will be showing some of his most exuberant and life-affirming sensual paintings at Lolita... Ten's astonishing fantasies of biological and geological phenomena are rendered in oil with exquisite technique, brushwork, and style that often engenders virtuosity... Cheese and experimental cookies opening night for as long as they last!" First off, experimental cookies sound awesome. And second, after looking at this work, instead of "life-affirming sensual paintings" I may have used a word beginning with "V" and ending in "ina", but hey thats just me. Show runs through 12/31.

CROOKED DISCO - FRIDAY NIGHT SPECIAL

FreeNYC Event Flyer

Date: Friday, December 21st
Time: 10:00pm
Location: Galapagos (70 N. 6th, W'burg)
Cost: $5 with RSVP, $10 w/o
Open Bar: 10:00pm - 11:00pm

Crooked Disco is a monthly audio/visual/performance experience. It sort of sounds like Electro meets Booty House meets B'more Club. It sort of looks like an A.D.D. fueled technicolor video game funhouse. Crooked Disco has been killing it every month so if you've missed us so far this is your chance!

This month Crooked Disco is on a Friday and that means we finally get to bring all of our friends who usually can’t come out to play on Saturdays. Straight off the top we’ve got a rare LIVE appearance from Todosantos. Live and direct from Venezuela and recently relocated in Brooklyn, the heavily hyped audiovisual band mashes up the best of Bmore, 4x4, ghettotech and dubstep into a whole new sound they like to call "tukky bass". The group sets the stage on fire with a stampede of zebras, seizure inducing videos and tukkybass madness, turning kids into crowd surfing lunatics from coast to coast. Fans of our previous guest, Eclectic Methods, will not be disapointed.

On the decks we’ve got Marc-Alan Gray who reigns supreme over the dancefloor at Lotus every Saturday. Marc-Alan has his own brand of sexed up electro house which will keep the floor moving to the early morn. And finally, newcomer on the scene and recent NYC transplant Pumpkin Patch takes over the decks with that French fueled electro bass that we just can’t get enough of. Fans of Modular, Kitsuné, and Ed Banger will want to check this out. Plus, we got new reinforced lighting. And as always, open bar from 10pm - 11pm.
