Asparagus: The Stalkumentary

FreeNYC Event Flyer

Date: Wednesday, September 19th
Time: 7:30pm
Location: The Tank (279 Church Street)
Cost: Free with RSVP (suggested donation $7)

At the very least, I eat asparagus once a week, so this "stalkumentary" hits close to home for me. "For over thirty years, Oceana County Michigan has been the Asparagus Capital of the World. Now its residents and family farms take on the US War on Drugs, free trade, and a fast food nation, all to save their beloved "roots." Oceana's farmers take their fight from Senate Trade Hearings to marketing think-tanks, from the US Department of Agriculture to the mountains of Peru. One rural American community is scrambling to keep its proud identity and source of survival against impossible odds. Discover why one little vegetable matters so much." Tonight, check out the premiere of the 60 minute version of this award winning documentary. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmakers Anne de Mare and Kirsten Kelly, plus asparagus inspired treats, and probably a whole lot of stinky pee!

Check out the trailer for Asparagus: The Movie here.

"Storefront for Art and Architecture will open its façade to a kaleidoscopic exhibition of Danish design manifested through the history, life, work and products of five Danish design brands; Bang & Olufsen (sound and vision), Fritz Hansen (furniture), Georg Jensen (jewelry and silverware), Louis Poulsen (lighting) and Royal Copenhagen (porcelain)... each [of the artists] represent an angle of the phenomena of Danish design. The egg chair, the Henning Koppel silverware and the PH lamps, to mention a few, are all iconic products that have been created by visionaries with a deep interest in the relationship between man and object, the uncompromising craftsmanship and the timelessness of the right shape." Tonight is the opening but you can get your fill of danish art through the 28th.
