"Dirty Projectors, is an emerging avant-pop group, create a psychedelic carnival. The group, led by composer David Longstreth, performs reconstructions and reinterpretations of Black Flag's Damaged album. Luke Fischbeck performs as Lucky Dragons, an electronic music project with a handmade aesthetic. New York’s own 'Poetry Czar' (Village Voice) Bob Holman starts early with a new poem crafted specifically for the evening."

The Brooklyn Ballet Brings Ballet to the Streets

This evening The Brooklyn Ballet will “Take Ballet to the Streets” at the Empire-Fulton Park. "The program will feature new works by Lynn Parkerson and Caridad Martinez, including Brooklyn Caprice, which combines classical and street dance styles. The program is followed by a Dance Party with DJ Soul Summit Music of Fort Greene, who is known for his enthralling Sunday music festivals. The dancers will be joining the crowd once the dance party begins"

El Carro Screens at Passport Friday

Passport Friday's is in it's third season at the Queens Museum of Art, bringing an outdoor summer festival of international music, dance and film. Tonight they screen El Carro. "The Velez’s, a typical middle-class family from Bogotá, Columbia, buy their first car in an attempt to move up the local social ladder. After the father accidentally gives away a winning lottery ticket for a new car to the neighbors, the Velez family decides to save face and buy their neighbor’s old car--a 1950´s cherry red Chevy convertible--spending their entire nest egg."

Joining him tonight is singer Catherine Russell "who takes on jazz balladry, bordello blues, dance hall swing, country, pop, and soul with equal élan."

Open Season at River Flicks

So they keep calling this River Flicks for Kids, but we're into a bunch of these movies, so either the films are also for grown ups, or we are just into kid stuff. Tonights kid flick is Open Season. Besides getting to watch movies outside on beautiful summer nights on the Hudson River, the other thing I like about River Flicks is that the popcorn is always free. Seating is first come first served, so you and you little ones may want to show up early.

Tonight, Mo Pair and Craig Chin sing songs of "despair and redemption." They are both indie singer song writers, and I am exaggerating a bit, they aren't completely debie downer. It should be a fun chill way to spend your Friday night.
