Date: Saturday, July 8th
Time: 10:00pm
Location: Galapagos Art Space (70 N6th St at Wythe, Williamsburg)

The FreeNYC crew is back at Galapagos once again to tear up the front room with Post-Dependence Day, an all out blast of live hip-hop, grime, ghetto tech, miami bass, and more. The insane lineup is fronted by Big Dada recording artists Bigg Jus (ex-Company Flow) and Orko Elohiem (NMS) dropping political flows over "dilapidated sci-fi beats." They are joined by a "who's who" of the hip hop underground including High Priest (Ninja Tune), Despot (Def Jux) and Zesto (Stolen Music Imprint) live on stage. CX Kidtronik and Zack Shadetek hold it down on the tables all night! Drink Specials to be announced.

Festivus

FreeNYC Event Flyer

Date: Saturday, July 8th
Time: 2:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: Great Hill, Central Park (enter at 10 and Central Park WEst)
Cost: Free
Summary: EMU, an organization commited to publically promoting electronic music as an art form, brings their 4th annual Festivus to Central Park today. Popping on my radar is on "Ol' School House Set" from Breakbeat Science founder and ex-Nasa member DB. Also notable are sets from NYC's masters of Progressive, John Creamer & Stephane K, and a live drumming performance at 2:30 by the Taiko Drumming Group. "Come Early for the Festivus Games..." whatever that means.

FreeNYC Event Flyer

Date: Saturday, July 8th
Time: 7:30pm
Location: Prospect Park Bandshell - map
Cost: Free ($3 suggested donation)
Summary: Brooklyn celebrates today with Toshi Reagon (that's her in the picture). Originally hailing from Atlanta (also my hometown... woop woop!), she now calls Brooklyn home. Her R&B singer-songwriter talents have toured with acts like Ani Difranco and Lenny Kravitz and she even performed with some dude named Elvis Costello with her band BIGLovely after he saw them in concert and requested they back him on a Letterman appearance. They'll be performing with special guest Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon (aka her mom), founder of the Grammy Award winning a cappella group Sweet Honey in the Rock.
