IRT Crew on Radio FreeNYC
FreeNYC Event Flyer
When our boy DJ Reason isn't working on promoting records at Nature Sounds, he continues to lay quality hiphop mixes down with his crew, IRT. For the better part of the past decade, they've rocked bars, clubs and lounges throughout the tri-state area. They've produced and distributed countless mix tapes and CD's. Not to mention, they've also ripped up the DJ battle circuit and performed live hiphop shows up and down the eastern seaboard. Establishing their names in the turntablist scene, DJ Reason and DJ onPoynt (of the IRT crew) have been on the grind since the late 90's, having a hand in almost anything you can think of in the hiphop community. Reason is currently the resident Thursday night DJ at the lower east side's Forbidden City, while onPoynt and the rest of the IRT crew regularly make guest appearances. Spinning anything from old school classics, club bangers, R&B, funk, soul, and gritty underground hiphop, they have developed a cult following and continue to attract newcomers every week. Listen Now

E.V. Day's Bride Fight Opening
FreeNYC Event Flyer
Date: Friday, May 5th
Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: Lever House (390 Park Ave)
Cost: Free
Summary: E.V. Day creates mesmerizing, high-tension sculptures out of string and fabric and the current exhibit, Bride Fight, is no exception. "Bride Fight, a spectacular high-tension string up of two dueling bridal gowns is E.V. Day’s most complex and most ambitious work to date. The tableau represents a manifestation of anxiety and humor, memorializing an active state of transformation of tradition."
Bride Fight developed from a series of E.V. Days installations called “Exploding Couture,” begun in 1999, in which she suspends women’s dresses in space. Each dress portrays a view of a conventional feminine stereotype in a dramatic stop-action explosion. The “explosions” are constructed to feel as if the internal forces of the figure are so powerful that the garment literally blows off, as if it is outgrowing its stereotype. Ecstasy, strength, humor and release are emotions Day associates with the expression of these sculptures.
E.V. Day had a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum at Altria in 2001, where she installed G-Force, a work in which she suspended hundreds of thongs from the ceiling in fighter jet formations. Day had a ten-year survey exhibition last year at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University for which a color catalogue was produced. E.V. Day’s exhibition Intergalactic Installations will appear at the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum From April 22 – June 18, 2006.

Matmos is M. C. Schmidt and Drew Daniel. In their recordings and live performances over the last nine years, Matmos has gained an international reputation for combining cinematic ambience, abrasive techno, polyrhythmic programming, and textures sampled from a wide range of musical influences and nonmusical sound sources. Some of their wildest sounds have included amplified crayfish nerve tissue, contact microphones on human hair, field recordings of conversations in hot tubs, frequency response tests for defective hearing aids, and the sound of a frozen stream thawing in the sun. Their composition L.A.S.I.K., based on the sounds of laser eye surgery, was featured in the Whitney Museum of American Art's 2001 digital art exhibition BitStreams. Matmos recently completed a tour with Bjork, and their latest project, The Rose Has Teeth in the Mouth of a Beast, is scheduled for release by Matador in April 2006
