Super Special Day

Well kids today is a very special day... Groundhog Day. Today is the day that pudgy, woodland creature pops its head out of a hole in the ground and lets me know whether I will get to snowboard for another six weeks or not. And well, given the fact that it was 60 degrees on Monday, the future of my east coast riding is looking grim.

Besides the whole rodent thing, today is also your founder-publisher-writer-designer-extraordinaire Chris' Birthday. That's right kids, 27 years ago today, Chris' Momma gave birth to this crazy middle child that we have all come to know and love. So raise your glasses (stop drinking on the job, gawd what lushes!) and wish Chris a Happy Birthday!

Beach Paintings

"New Beach Paintings" is that latest solo show from photorealistic painter Hilo Chen. "This body of work, which is arguably his best, is reminiscent of iconic Pop images such as the Girl with Ball painting created by Roy Lichtenstein in 1961. Chen's use of color is especially suggestive of this era as seen in Beach 146 in which a topless sunbather lounges on a vibrant arrangement of colorful beach towels. The swimsuit top prominently displayed in Beach 150 authenticates the Pop trend with its elaborate, geometric patterns."

After each film we'll have a Q&A with the filmmaker and take questions from the audience. The venue is a unique place that has a stage, screen, bar and Internet café.
