No More Monkey Business

Ok people, lets talk monkeys. I love monkeys, my neighbor who has a chimp which sits in his window 24/7 loves monkeys, and the world renowned primatologist, Jane Goodall also loves monkeys. She is actually best known for her decades of work with chimpanzees and baboons, but today she is droppin knowlegde not about the state of the animal kingdom, but of human society and the way we produce and consume in hopes of achieving a more sustainable world. In her latest book, Harvet For Hope, she outlines some of where western society has gone wrong and how we can creat positive change.

2000 Too Many

180-iraq_casualties[1].jpg

Stealing words I'm feeling (from Contested Terrain)... "We have just received word that the moment we have been dreading has arrived: 2,000 U.S. servicepeople have now died in Iraq. We grieve for these two thousand men and women, killed in the prime of their lives, for a war based on lies, and we grieve for the tens of thousands of Iraqis who have also died in the chaos and carnage the Bush Administration has brought to their country. It's time to bring the troops home -- now. Not one more U.S. serviceperson should give his or her life to this senseless war. Not one more Iraqi should be killed. Not one more U.S. dollar should be spent sustaining this war and occupation."

"CNN has just reported grim news: 2,000 Americans soldiers have now died in Iraq. Join veterans, military families and United for Peace and Justice-NYC for a solemn vigil. Bring flowers to lay on the doorstep of the Recruiting Center and banners and signs."

Handheld Featuring the MP3 Experiment

handheld.gif

Every once in a while, NYU does something really cool. Today they are hosting Handheld, a sort of lecture/exhibition on experimental uses of handheld technology. The event will feature Haeyoung Kim (bubblyfish) who will perform 8-bit symphonies on Game Boy with visual accompanyment, c.h.i.a.k.i who will present low fi 8-bit visuals created out of Ninetendo, and Family Filter who's simpleTEXT program creates music out of audience supplied text messages.

Most important to me, as I was out of town a few weeks back, is the fact that Improv Everywhere will be on hand with another MP3 Experiment. For those of you who missed out on the rainy park fun now is your chance to get on it. So download the mp3 (no pre-listening) load it into your ipod and bring it along. All at once, we will press play and enjoy the ride... together. This will probably be the last MP3 experiment until warmer days so don't sleep.

Date: Wednesday, October 26th
Time: 7:30pm
Location: NYU, Kimmel Center (60 Washington Square South, 8th floor)
Cost: Free (please bring ID)
