Soundcheck Series: Chocolate Genius

On select Friday evenings the Whitney presents SoundCheck, a series of live music and literary events by some of downtown's most adventurous talent. Cocktails and snacks are available for purchase, and all exhibitions are open for viewing.
Marc Anthony Thompson (aka Chocolate Genius) and Stuart Matthewman appear together in an evening of electronic wizardry and sonic mayhem as they deconstruct and essentialize songs from the Chocolate Genius Inc. catalogue. Thompson has released four critically acclaimed solo albums, scored several films, and collaborated with many different artists, including Marc Ribot, Meshell N’degcello, Roger Guenevere Smith, Cibo Matto, Medeski, Martin and Wood, the Roots and Philip Glass. He has recorded the songs of a wide range of artists and eras -from Marvin Gaye¹s, “Ain¹t That Peculiar” (from the Oscar nominated film American Splendor), The Beatles, “Julia” (I Am Sam), Harold Arlen (Stormy Weather: The Harold Arlen Story) “Days” (from the CBS show Crossing Jordan). His latest album will be released on Commotion Records in the summer of 2005.
