TONIGHT: NOT IN OUR NAME RALLY IN USQ
November 2nd is election day: Come debate, discuss, hear spoken word and music, and be together as silent election coverage rolls next to resistance & war footage on our TV art installation. Bring your transistor radios, bring your friends, bring your kids. Check out community organization tables, participate in a mass die-in (representing those lost in this war on the world), take the Not in Our Name "Pledge of Resistance", write a letter to a GI resister or a soldier in Iraq and make plans with others to continue building massive resistance to the governments agenda of war and repression. We can't allow a break in the resistance against the war, and we believe that possibilities for our futures exist outside of the two options that we are being given during this presidential election. No Matter Who Is Elected, We Say NO to War and Repression! Gather at Union Square to continue building the next wave of resistance to deliver a resounding "NO" to war and repression here and abroad. No matter the outcome of the presidential election on Nov 2nd, we are still against the war

Public Service Announcement This is

Public Service Announcement

This is just a friendly reminder to get out there and vote today. This may be one of the closest and most critical elections of our lifetime. If for some reason you are not eligible to vote, you can help out by calling people and reminding them to vote, driving people to the polls or volunteering at a voting center. And after all the lever pulling is completed, I'll hopefully see you all at Galapagos for free drinks.

Five Reasons For Voting
1) Its one of the rights afforded to us by the Constitution and the back bone
of democracy
2) The more young people that get out and vote the more politicians will
listen to us and make decisions that benefit our generation.
3) It helps you understand the importantce of developing new technology,
as most of those machines have been around longer than my grandma.
4) Voting centers are a great place to meet all your hot neighbors!
5) Its FREE (well I guess we pay taxes so its not really free)

If you encounter any problems when going to vote you can call 1-866-OUR-VOTE

Happy Voting!

Well chances are most of you are a little sad today. If you are looking for something to do tonight rather than sit in front of the TV and hope for Ohio to change over to blue, head over to Galapagos for a free screening of The Machinist. Christian Bale plays Trevor, an insomniac who hasn't slept in over a year. His lack of sleep has caused physical and mental deterioration. His fatigue makes it unclear what is reality and what is part of his paranoid delusions. The movie also co-stars Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Weekend Wrap-Up: 11.5 - 11.7:

Weekend Wrap-Up: 11.5 - 11.7: Its a light weekend for us free folks. It seems that everyone is either recovering from Halloween or sitting home still in shock over Tuesday. Lots of really good art though, and of course the marathon on Sunday. Have a good one!

FRIDAY

OH, THE HUMANITY
Imagine getting hard while an institutional white clad beauty sponges you down in the hospital. Now imagine the pristine environment of a 1950s home, moments before you and the raven-haired housewife witness an explosion of blood from the vacuum. Imagine giving head to the Pink Panther. Now imagine getting lucky at the Hindenburg disaster. GV/AS is pleased to announce Oh, The Humanity, a solo show by the artist Chris Williams.Freed by the limits of reality-based relationships into the racy arms of rich and vibrant primary colors, Williams renders his world directly and deliberately. He wastes nothing by juxtaposing hard black edges with slippery scenarios, urging us into a loose and fantastical realm. It is a collage, a split-second spliced B movie of appropriate feelings at so-called inappropriate times. The apparent reserve and medical manual cool is undermined by the explosiveness and desire, the hot and the grotesque, and ultimately, yes, the humanity. Continues through 11/28

Weekend Wrap-Up: 11.12 - 11.14:

Weekend Wrap-Up: 11.12 - 11.14: The FreeNYC staff is working extra hard to keep the pennies in the piggy bank with winter fast approaching and snowboarding season right around the corner. There are several great art opening this weekend as usual so opt for either the "Non't Yellow Monster" show at Stay Gold if you want to see the art or "Clair Rojas Table Turner" if you want to be seen seeing the art. Also, our long-lost friend Chengwin is back in town for a rare performance that is not to be missed, especially if you have never caught the madness before. And Saturday night is full of parties with members of !!! in town at Asterisk. Have a good one.

FRIDAY

NON'T YELLOW MONSTER

An Exhibition of works on paper and canvas by Jeremiah Maddock, accompanied by guerilla installations by Noah Lane.. Stay Gold is pleased to present the East Coast debut of Jeremiah Maddock. His works are cleverly sincere, employing the use of oil, watercolors, gouache, pencil, ink, xylene, coffee, propane, magnesium, blood, sweat and tears to construct a unique visual vocabulary which borrows nothing from the redundancy of borrowed themes and emotions which often overwhelm the art world. Jeremiah offers a refreshing dose of innocence and honesty that is undeniable. The images depict soft, sometimes vague, sometimes humorously specific figurative images, layered upon organic textures with such subtle precision that one gets the impression that surely the works weren't painted, rather that the images have evolved by the sheer will of the paper.

With releases on labels like Aphex Twin's Rephlex Records, as well as numerous singles for Ersatz Audio, Ghostly International and Gigolo, and remixes for the Gentle People, Biochip C, LeCar and many more, Ed DMX has also been running his own label Breakin' since 1997. CUTE AND SCARY
Flux Factory is pleased to present Cute and Scary, an exhibit that will showcase works by emerging artists raised within a milieu where comics and Japanese animation began to reveal a dark side beneath the Hello Kitty exterior. Something in the work of these artists remains childlike and innocent. But a deeper look reveals a poignant dark side. An unsolved dichotomy, makes the work feel both empowered and vulnerable. This ambiguity translates into works that come across as fun and disturbing, dark and light, cute and scary without really favoring one or the other. Subverted clichs of feminism, pop culture or eroticism mingle with nightmarish visions. This show will entice Kids and have grown ups shiver.

SUNDAY

I HATE MOMA
"I'm writing to you about a protest against the new admission charge at MoMA that will take place on Sunday, November 21, when the new rate goes into effect. On that date, participating volunteers will pay their admission fees in pennies only. By replacing a crisp bill with twelve and one half pounds of pennies, we intend to remind the Modern that its $20.00 ticket price weighs heavily on the audience the museum promises to serve. I'm not exactly sure what to expect from this, but it promises to be interesting. After these guys are done throwing knives at each other, stay for the Burlesque show, a weekly Williamsburg staple.

Galapagos (70 North 6th Street between Kent and Wythe)
8:00 pm for Variety Show; 10:00pm for Burlesque

TONIGHT: Pacific Overture-Miyamoto Amon and

TONIGHT: Pacific Overture-Miyamoto Amon and John Dower
This extraordinary evening celebrating the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheims 1976 musical masterpiece, Pacific Overtures will feature a live performance segment from the upcoming production at the Roundabout Theatre, a stunning audio/visual presentation, and a lively discussion between Amon Miyamoto, director of the revival, and Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, Dr. John W. Dower of MIT.

Just like the musical, the evening will explore the cultural interactions and conflicts that resulted from the Opening of Japan by Commodore Perry and his "Black Ships" in 1853. Miyamoto will speak about his unique staging of the show, which won raves when presented in Tokyo, at the Lincoln Center Festival and at the Kennedy Centers Sondheim Celebration, and he will compare and contrast it with Hal Princes 1976 production.

Dr. Dower will present extraordinary artwork from both sides of this historic encounter, based on his and M.I.T.s Black Ships and Samurai exhibition and web site. Parts of the exhibition will be displayed in the lobby, and Japan expert and author Dr. Carol Gluck of Columbia University will moderate.

TONIGHT: DANCE AND DISEMBODIMENT

TONIGHT: DANCE AND DISEMBODIMENT

Digital artist Paul Kaiser will discuss the works he and his colleagues have made (or are making) with choreographers Merce Cunningham, Bill T. Jones, and Trisha Brown, all of which involve abstracting dance movement by means of motion-capture technology and re-choreographing that movement on the computer. The resulting disembodiment of dance raises fascinating questions of haunting complexity. Kaiser will also present related work not in the dance field, including the public art installation Pedestrian (2002, with Shelley Eshkar), in which simulations of photorealistic crowds are projected directly onto the sidewalks of a city at night and Trace (2001), a narrative multimedia installation about the surveillance of memory.

The annual Grand Central Holiday Laser Light Shows, a New York City tradition, uses the famed Sky Ceiling of the Main Concourse as a canvas on which lasers literally bring the constellations to life, transforming them into snowmen, skiers, famous New York City buildings and much more. One of six individual five-minute shows is presented daily on the hour and half hour, between 11:00 AM and 9:00 PM. To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the New York Subway System, a special tribute Laser Light Show has been created. Straphangers young and old alike will recognize these images from the underground, including depictions of subway cars; station stops and even constellations becoming commuters, all moving to the strains of Take the A Train.
